Vodafone and Nokia have announced an expansion of their partnership to combat digital fraud across Europe.
This collaboration aims to leverage advanced telecommunications network capabilities to empower developers in building more secure applications.
Announced today the partnership seeks to utilize the power of 5G and network intelligence to address rising threats, such as impersonation scams, account takeovers, authorized push payment fraud, and other forms of digital deception that have plagued consumers and businesses in recent years.
At the core of this initiative is Vodafone’s suite of Network APIs (Application Programming Interfaces). These APIs provide real-time insights from mobile networks, enabling features like enhanced identity verification, device authentication, and fraud detection signals.
Starting in April 2026, Nokia will integrate these Vodafone Network APIs into its anti-fraud and authentication products through its Network as Code (NaC) platform—a leading developer ecosystem that connects over 70 partners and allows seamless access to specialized network capabilities.
This integration will facilitate app developers whether targeting financial institutions, e-commerce platforms, public sector services, or consumer applications—to incorporate telecom-grade security tools into their 4G and 5G-based solutions.
By utilizing network-level data, such as connectivity status, location insights, and behavioral patterns, developers can create smarter applications that detect suspicious activities in real-time, reduce false positives in authentication processes, and ultimately lower fraud risks without compromising user experience.
The partnership is expected to evolve throughout 2026,
This aligns with Vodafone’s broader fraud prevention strategy, which includes tools like Scam Signal (launched to help banks verify caller legitimacy and detect impersonation attempts) and other network intelligence solutions.
Nokia, a global leader in network infrastructure and programmable networks, will enhance these capabilities through its NaC platform, emphasizing standards-based innovation in line with industry initiatives like GSMA Open Gateway and CAMARA.
By combining Vodafone’s extensive network reach in Europe with Nokia’s developer-focused platform, the partnership aims to shift toward proactive defense, enabling faster innovation in secure digital services.
