The Labour Party has stated that it will invite 50 witnesses to testify against Bola Tinubu’s election victory and will require seven weeks to complete this as the forensic investigation of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) ordered by the court is yet to be carried out.
It agreed that the star witnesses would have 30 minutes to present any electronic evidence, Channels Television reported.
Twenty minutes will be given for cross-examining that group of witnesses, five minutes for re-examination, and ten minutes for other witnesses.
While addressing the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal (PEPT) in Abuja on Saturday, the party’s counsel Awa Kalu said the required period is because the accreditation System (BVAS) ordered by the court have not been carried out.
He noted that the petitioner has not received some requested documents.
For the respondents, the star witnesses were given 20 minutes, and the cross-examination was given 30 minutes.
Bola Tinubu’s and Kashim Shettima’s attorneys, Roland Otaru, sought a nine-day window during which they may call witnesses but not experts.
The APC concurred with Tinubu and Shettima’s proposal and said that it would be presenting seven witnesses over the course of nine days.
Five witnesses were scheduled to testify in the Labour Party petition, according to INEC, who suggested seven days to complete it.
However, Abubakar Mahmoud, the commission’s lead attorney, disagreed that there should be a distinct time set aside for the presentation of electronic evidence.
