Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has approved a total ban on commercial motorcycles known as Okada on additional four local government areas in the state starting from September 1.
This was announced by Dr. Fredric Oladeinde, the state Commissioner for Transportation at an inter-ministerial media briefing on Thursday, held at Alausa, Ikeja.
The affected councils include: Kosofe, Ikosi-Isheri, Oshodi-Isolo, Mushin, including the respective LCDAs in the areas.
Recall that the state government on May 18, 2022 announced a total ban on Okada riders in 6 local government areas in the state.
In June the State Government inaugurated Anti-Okada Squad to further enforce the ban in line with the Transport Sector Reform Law (TSRL), 2018.
The state governor on August 7, said that the okada ban has been successful in curbing insecurity and reducing accidents.
He said: “Speaking on the ban on Okada, we have seen tremendous improvement in the areas that okada have been banned. Not only have we seen a drop on issue around security like traffic robberies, we have also seen a significant drop in okada accidents. We don’t see limbs been cut in our hospitals again.”
