The Federal Government has denied the allegation of abandoning Nigerians of Igbo extraction in Khartoum, Sudan.
A Nigerian in a viral video had alleged discrimination during the evacuation of Nigerians from Sudan by the Federal Government, saying they were abandoned in the war torn country due to their state of origin.
In a viral video circulating on social media seen by Investogist, they claimed they boarded the last bus that moved some Nigerians to Egypt but they were asked to come out of the bu. He said the government abandoned them due to politics.
But Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Francisca Omayuli said it has investigated the allegation and the report was false. She maintained that additional buses were provided to “accommodate every Nigerian National” that wanted to be evacuated.
Omayuli said that Igbos were among the first batch of 637 Nigerians evacuated to Aswan Border, Egypt and are presently awaiting their eventual return to Nigeria.
She noted that although there were scuffles between the students and other Nigerian residents due to the limited number of buses, the issue had been resolved by providing more buses.
“More buses were made available to accommodate every Nigerian national in Sudan who indicated interest to be evacuated.
“It is, therefore, surprising that such a misleading allegation could be leveled against officials of the Embassy who had worked tirelessly on the evacuation exercise,” she added.
