The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, in the early hours of Tuesday, May 19, 2026, following his conviction and sentencing in absentia for fraud involving power sector funds..
EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede confirmed the arrest, which took place around 3:30 a.m. in the Rigasa area of Kaduna State. Operatives acting on intensive intelligence and surveillance apprehended Mamman, who had gone underground after his sentencing.
He is currently in EFCC custody and will be remanded in prison to begin serving his term.
On May 13, 2026, Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court sentenced Mamman to a 75 years imprisonment after convicting him on all 12 counts bordering on conspiracy, money laundering, and diversion of public funds.
The sentences, comprising multiple seven-year terms, are to run consecutively, commencing from the date of his arrest.
The EFCC had accused the former minister, who served from 2019 to 2021 under former President Muhammadu Buhari, of colluding with ministry officials, private contractors, and Bureau de Change operators to divert approximately ₦33.8 billion earmarked for the *Mambilla and Zungeru Hydroelectric Power Projects.
In addition to the jail term, the court ordered the refund of outstanding balances traced to the projects around ₦22 billion in diverted funds and the forfeiture of recovered assets to the Federal Government.
