Dr. Alex Otti, the incoming governor of Abia, has advised Abians not to panic over his alleged dismissal by a Federal High Court in Kano, stating that there is no reason to worry about the kangaroo judgment.
Otti, told the media on Friday, that preparations for his inauguration on May 29 were proceeding according to schedule and that the actions of opponents of democracy could not thwart the wishes of Abians.
This is because the Labour Party deemed the aforementioned verdict to be a time waster.
A Federal High Court sitting in Kano, had on Friday nullified the candidature of the Abia State Governor-elect, Dr Alex Otti and all the candidates of the Labour Party in Abia and Kano States.
Justice M N Yunusa who presided over the matter ruled that their emergence was not in compliance with the provisions of the 2022 Electoral Act.
In his reaction, Hon. Ceekay Igara, the chairman of the Labour Party in Abia State, said that the court’s “pronunciation is laughable.”
He asserted that the court’s ruling would not have any bearing on the incoming inauguration of the governor-elect.
Igara added that the only entity with the authority to remove a democratically elected official is the electoral tribunal.
He said, “That court pronouncement is laughable. Everybody should go about their normal activities. It is only the tribunal that can remove Alex Otti.
“It is not just a court that will remove someone who was duly elected. Infact I am going to gear up activities for the inauguration”.
