Applications for the 2023/2024 academic session for the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) scholarships opens today, December 15, 2022.
DAAD, the world’s biggest funding organization supports well over 100,000 German and international students and researchers around the globe. It offers fully-funded scholarships to students from different countries who want to study in Germany
DAAD scholarships are aimed primarily at graduates, doctoral students and postdocs and are awarded for study and research visits to universities and non-university research institutions in Germany. In some programmes, internships are also funded.
DAAD also awards Research Grants – One-Year Grants for Doctoral Candidates for PhD students from almost all countries of origin.
Benefits:
- Fully funded scholarships that do not have to be paid back.
- Monthly scholarship payment of €861 for graduates and
- €1,200 for doctoral/PhD students) and
- a flat-rate travel allowance.
- In many cases, DAAD also provides you with health, accident and personal liability insurance.
Under certain circumstances, scholarship holders may receive the following additional benefits:
- Monthly rent subsidy
- Monthly allowance for accompanying members of family
There are also additional benefits such as a one-off research allowance, family benefits or funds for language courses, depending on the scholarship programme.

International students in Germany are also allowed to work part-time in their free time where they can earn an average salary of €450 to €600 per month.
DAAD Scholarship Duration: A DAAD-sponsored master’s programme typically lasts between 12 to 24 months while PhD programmes last up to 36 months.
Eligibility
- Applicants from the following countries: list of eligible countries
- A candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree (usually a four-year course) in a related subject.
- A candidate’s academic degree should normally not be more than six years old.
- At least two years of professional experience.
- Candidates can prove their motivation is development-related and be expected to take on social responsibility and initiate and support processes of change in their personal and professional environment after their training/scholarship

- Cooperation for Development.
- Complementary Sciences and Engineering.
- Economics.
- Forestry and agricultural sciences
- Natural and environmental sciences.
- Health and medicine.
- Media study
- Law, education and social sciences
- Urban and regional planning.
- Political economics.

Documents for application: To apply for the scholarship, interested candidates should ensure they have the following documents:
- Hand-signed CV/resume
- Two-page hand-signed motivation letter
- An academic recommendation letter must be approved and signed.
- Professional recommendation letters from your company with an authorized signature.
- Acknowledgement of employment from your home country
- English Proficiency tests- IELTS (band 6) minimum score of 550,
- DSH 2 or Test DaF4 certificate that is equal to or more than the B1 level at the time of application.
- Verified academic degrees.
