(Greenwich Merchant Bank): The NGX-ASI and market capitalization increased by 0.31% to 52,580.86 points and N28.63 trillion respectively at the end of today’s trading session.
The top gainers were NB 9.63%, VITAFOAM 6.05%, PZ 7.28% and CADBURY 8.24%. In the same vein, Year-To-Date, the market has gained 2.59%.
Today, market sentiment was positive as the total volume and value traded rose by 18.02% and 16.24% to close at 680.80 million units and N7.89 billion respectively. Also, FIDELITYBK and GTCO emerged as the most traded stock by volume and value respectively.
The market breadth closed positive at 1.56x as a result of gains recorded in Twenty-Eight (28) stocks, while Eighteen (18) stocks depreciated.
On the sectoral index, performance was predominantly positive today as the Consumer Goods (+1.09%), Banking (+0.97%), Oil & Gas (+0.49%) and the Insurance (+0.48%) sectors recorded gains, while the Industrial (-0.10%) sector closed south.
Fixed Income Market
The average system liquidity increased to N534.94 billion from its opening balance of N34.77 billion.
At the interbank market, both the Open Buy Back and Overnight rate increased by 450bps and 413bps to close at 17.88% and 18.25% respectively.
At the NTBills market, activities was bearish as yields increased by 9bps to close at 6.76%.
However, at the Bond market, activities was bullish as average yields decreased marginally by 1bps to close at 14.36%.
The Naira exchange rate, at the I&E window, depreciated by N0.46 to N465.13/USD from N464.67/USD.
