The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has unveiled the official timetable for Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, outlining key activities from voter registration to the conduct of the presidential, legislative, and governorship polls.
According to the schedule, continuous voter registration will commence in April 2026 and run until January 2027, giving eligible Nigerians the opportunity to register or update their voter information ahead of the elections.
Political parties are expected to conduct their primaries between July 1 and September 30, 2026, to select candidates for various elective positions.
This will be followed by the submission of candidate lists to INEC from October 1 to October 31, 2026. The commission is scheduled to publish the final list of candidates on November 15, 2026.
Campaign activities will officially begin shortly after. Campaigns for the presidential and National Assembly elections are set to run from November 18, 2026, to February 19, 2027. Meanwhile, campaigns for governorship and state assembly elections will take place from December 15, 2026, to March 5, 2027.
The presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled for Saturday, February 20, 2027, while governorship and state House of Assembly elections will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2027.
INEC said the timetable is designed to provide political parties, candidates, and voters with a clear roadmap ahead of the 2027 general elections, ensuring adequate preparation and compliance with electoral guidelines.
The commission also urged eligible citizens to participate in the voter registration process and engage peacefully in all stages of the electoral process.
