The University of Benin has appointed Professor Edoba Omoregie, a specialist in constitutional law and governance, as its new Vice-Chancellor. The announcement was made by Professor Shaibu Umaru, the Chairman of the Governing Council, on Friday in Benin.
Professor Omoregie was selected as the 11th Vice-Chancellor out of 27 candidates who applied for the position. He will succeed Professor Lillian Salami, whose tenure concludes on December 1.
Born on April 5, 1969, Professor Omoregie is originally from Benin City. He earned his first, second, and third degrees from the University of Benin. He was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1992 and was conferred the prestigious title of Senior Advocate of Nigeria in 2021.
