In July 2024, President Bola Tinubu approved an increase in the minimum wage for Nigerian workers from N30,000 to N70,000, but implementation has been gradual across states.
Several states have announced plans to pay above N70,000: –
Lagos State: Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced a new minimum wage of N85,000 on October 16, 2024, citing the high cost of living. –
Rivers State: Governor Siminalayi Fubara approved N85,000 for civil servants on October 18, 2024.
Ogun State: Governor Dapo Abiodun set the minimum wage at N77,000 on October 15, 2024. –
Gombe State: An agreement with the Nigeria Labour Congress raised the minimum wage to N71,451.15 on October 14, 2024. –
Ondo State: Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa announced a minimum wage of N73,000 on October 12, 2024. –
Kogi State: Governor Usman Ododo approved N72,500 for civil servants, suspending taxes on this amount for one year. States adopting the N70,000 wage include: –
Anambra: Governor Soludo promise to start Payments in October 2024. –
**Katsina**: Commitment to implement the new wage. –
**Ebonyi**: N70,000 approved in September. –
**Adamawa**: Approved in August. –
**Oyo**: Payments contingent upon addressing salary adjustments. –
**Borno**: Payments commence in October 2024. –
**Osun and Benue**: Expressed readiness to adopt the wage.
However, Jigawa, Zamfara, Akwa Ibom, and Bayelsa have yet to announce plans for implementation.
