Lagos State is planning to celebrate International Widows Day by gifting 800 widows a total sum of N40 million.
The Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation will provide N50,000 to each widow. The beneficiaries will be selected from various non-governmental organizations, faith-based organizations, political groups, and the ministry’s register of vulnerable widows.
The theme for this year’s celebration is ‘Accelerating the Achievement of Gender Equality.’
The commissioner of the ministry, Bolaji Dada, urged the widows to use the money to invest in their businesses, focus on themselves, and support their children.
The ministry aims to raise awareness about the challenges faced by widows and their children and actively work towards their independence and success.
