Rivers State House of Assembly complex was rocked by explosions Sunday night amid alleged moves by some lawmakers to impeach Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
A source said that some lawmakers have concluded plans to begin the impeachment process on the Governor and the Leader of the House, Hon. Edison Ehie.
Investogist gathered that the incident was caused by suspected political thugs who threw explosives around complex at about 9:25pm, causing a fire in the building.
A senior police officer who confirmed the incident but pleaded anonymity due to it’s sensitive nature, claimed the attack on the complex was politically motivated.
“Yes it is true. The fire occurred around 9:30pm or so. But as we speak, it (the fire) has been put out by firefighters who arrived at the scene just in time. I think it has to do with politics,” he stated.
According to reports, over 17 security trucks and four Armoured Personnel Carriers, have been stationed at the facility with more than 50 Federal Security personnel mobilized at the complex.
