The Department of State Services (DSS) has confirmed that the Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is in their custody.

The secret police made the confirmation in a statement by the Public Relations Officer (PRO), Peter Afunanya, on Saturday.
“The Department of State Services (DSS) hereby confirms that Mr Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is now in its custody for some investigative reasons,” the statement read.
The statement went on to ask the public, particularly the Media to apply utmost caution in the reportage and narratives concerning the matter.
Investogist reported on Friday that the Emefiele was arrested by the DSS shortly after he was suspended by President Bola Tinubu.
Willie Bassey, Director of Information in SGF office made the suspension announcement on Friday, stating that Emefiele is to transfer his responsibilities to the deputy governor, operations directorate.
Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi, the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate) will act as the Central Bank Governor pending the conclusion of the investigation and reforms.
During his campaign, Tinubu had criticized the failed naira redesign policy implemented by Emefiele under Buhari’s administration.
On his inauguration day, he maintained that the policy “was too harshly applied by the CBN given the number of unbanked Nigerians.
“The policy shall be reviewed. In the meantime, my administration will treat both currencies as legal tender”.
