Evangelist Ebuka Obi, the Spiritual Director of the Zion Prayer Movement Outreach (a non-denominational ministry), commissioned on September 19, 2025, the Seraphic Psychiatric Hospital and Old People’s Home in Aguleri, Anambra East Local Government Area, Anambra State, Nigeria.
This marks the opening of Southeast Nigeria’s first free psychiatric hospital, fulfilling a childhood vision of Ebuka Obi to provide specialized care for the mentally ill and elderly. The facility, built as a humanitarian initiative by the Zion Ministry, offers all services— including accommodation, medical treatment, medication, and rehabilitation—free of charge. It includes a 400-bed capacity and aims to reintegrate recovered patients with their families.
The commissioning event was attended by the Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo, who officially inaugurated the facility and praised its impact on public health and Mr Peter Obi, former Anambra Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, who commended the project and linked it to broader mental health advocacy.
The psychiatric wing is slated to become fully operational by October 2025. Ebuka Obi also announced plans for dedicated vehicles and hotlines to pick up and transport mentally ill individuals spotted on streets, ensuring prompt, no-cost care.
