A total of 1,000 patients from Anambra State received free treatment for various ailments during a medical mission in Oraifite, Ekwusigo Local Government.
The mission was conducted by 82 foreign doctors from the United States, Sweden, and Canada, working under the VOOM Foundation and the Sir Emeka Okwuosa Foundation.
The medical services provided included free open-heart surgeries for 29 children, subsidized treatment for over 15 adults, free cardiovascular evaluations, medicare, medicated eyeglasses, walkers for those with mobility issues, and special gift packs for the community.
Additionally, interventional cardiologists performed catheterizations on 10 children, and the foundation partnered with Immaculate Heart Eye Clinic, Nkpor, to address various eye issues.
Since the inauguration of the Dame Irene Okwuosa Memorial Hospital two years ago, a total of 120 successful open-heart surgeries have been performed.
Shawn Pulliam, the Executive Director of the VOOM Foundation USA, praised the commitment of the 82 volunteer doctors, while Rachael Crandall, the Coordinator of VOOM Foundation Medical Missions, called for further support from the government and private organizations.
