The Confederation of African Football (CAF) Disciplinary Board has sanctioned the Libya Football Federation (LFF), awarded 3 goals and 3 points to Nigeria over missed match, following an incident involving the Nigerian Super Eagles, who were detained at Al Abraq Airport ahead of their AFCON 2025 qualifying match.
CAF president, Patrice Motsepe, had said that a thorough probe was ongoing noting that CAF would not tolerate any lack of sportsmanship and unfair treatment in African football.
Lybia was found guilty of the inhumane treatment meted out to the Nigerian senior men’s football team, which is a breach of multiple regulations, in their actions leading up to the match originally scheduled for October 15 in Benghazi.
In its decision, CAF Disciplinary Board, chaired by Ousmane Kane, cited violations of Article 31 of the AFCON Regulations and Articles 82 and 151 of the CAF Disciplinary Code.
The five-man disciplinary committee consists of; Mr. Ousmane Kane (Senegal) Chairperson, Ms. Njeri Onyango (Kenya) Vice-Chairperson, Mr. Felix Golbassia (Tchad) Member, Mr. Patrick Shale (Lesotho) Member, and Mr. Norman Arendse (South Africa) Member.
CAF said the disciplinary board decided that; “The Libya Football Federation is found to have breached Article 31 of the African, Cup of Nations Regulations as well as Articles 82 and 151 of the CAF Disciplinary Code, and that the match No.87 Libya v. Nigeria of the CAF African Cup of Nations Qualifiers 2025 (scheduled to be played on 15 October 2024 in Benghazi) is declared lost by forfeit by Libya (by a score of 3-0).
With this decision, Nigeria extends its group lead by three points from the fixture, to total of 10 ponits with four matches played,.
Benin Republic follows with 6 points, Rwanda c follows with five points, while Libya, sits at the bottom with just one point..
