British Airways has become the first UK airline to offer completely free, high-speed Starlink Wi-Fi after a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner took off from Heathrow heading for Houston with the revolutionary system active for all passengers on board.
Flight BA197, operated by aircraft G-ZBJJ, marked a milestone as passengers in all cabins—from Club World to EuroTraveller—enjoyed gate-to-gate connectivity without passwords, fees, or loyalty logins.
The Starlink service, powered by SpaceX’s low-Earth orbit satellite network, provides download speeds of up to 500 Mbps, fast enough for 4K streaming, video calls, online gaming, and seamless work on multiple devices.
British Airways chairman and CEO Sean Doyle said: “We’re excited to be the first UK airline to bring this level of connectivity to our customers. Starlink will give our travelers fast, reliable Wi-Fi that improves the onboard experience.”
Installation is now underway across the 787-8 fleet, with plans to equip the entire mainline fleet of more than 300 aircraft within two years.
This move puts British Airways ahead of all other UK carriers and aligns it with international airlines already using the technology.
Passengers on upcoming BA flights should look for the new “Starlink Wi-Fi” network once they are airborne.rne.rne.rne.rne.rne.
