The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested Doyin Okupe, a chieftain of the Labour Party (LP) and former DG of Peter Obi’s presidential campaign council
Okupe was arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, on Thursday, The Cable reported
DSS spokesperson, Peter Afunanya said Okupe was intercepted at Terminal 1 of the airport at the instance of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), according to the report.
“Doyin Okupe was intercepted by the DSS at Terminal 1 of Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos this morning at the instance of the EFCC.
“He has long been handed over to the Commisson which requested for the action. “Okupe was billed to fly to London via Virgin Atlantic” He said.
One of Okupe’s lawyers, Tolu Babaleye told Vanguard that the DSS asked him to provide court processes where he paid the fine option following his money laundering conviction by the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja.
Recall that Okupe resigned as the Director-General of the Peter Obi presidential campaign council a day after his money laundering conviction.
At the time, the former Senior Special Assistant to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan said that it was time to step aside, but reiterated that he was with Peter Obi and the Obidients and the Presidential Campaigns till God gives “us” victory.
