The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) on Wednesday said there are varying fees for the correction of details in the National Identity Number (NIN).
The NIMC Regional Coordinator in Alausa, Lagos, Funmi Opensanwo, said the charges vary from correction of details like name, address, card renewal or replacement, and date of birth while speaking on a Television Programme, Sunrise Daily.
Opensanwo stated this while reacting to allegations that officials of NIMC have been demanding illegal fees from Nigerians to link their NIN to their sim cards.

He said “The money we charge is for modification fee. For the date of birth correction, the processing fee is N15, 000. For card renewal or card replacement, there is a processing fee of N5, 000.
“For a modification of your name and address, there is a fee of N5,000.” Besides, she said the fees “are for services and (things) to be corrected. They are payable to the Treasury Single Account, TSA, and not to anybody.”
The sudden mandate of Nigerians to link their SIM cards to NIM has been a controversial issue and did not resonate well with many Nigerians, given the short period allowed for the exercise and the associated costs.
However, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) is statement by the Director, Public Affairs, Dr Ikechukwu Adinde, said that “it is very important to emphasize that the current exercise of linking NIN to SIM(s) is for the common good of all Nigerians, as it has far reaching benefits.
“Apart from enhancing our general safety, this will help in such vital exercises like national budgeting, policy planning, social intervention programmes and many more”
