The emergency committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has approved the immediate disbursement of financial grants to Member Associations to support football management at domestic level. This decision was taken at a meeting held by the CAF emergency committee on Thursday, 28th May 2020.
The 54 member association have suspended its 2019/2020 seasons due to the ravaging effect and spread of COVID-19 pandemic across the globe. The CAF president Ahmad Ahmad said “This has brought huge financial burden on their shoulders, thus CAF has decided to wave the eligibility requirements to access the annual grants, so all member associations can benefit during the difficult period”.
Barely two week ago, CAF announced the distribution of 3.5M USD to participating clubs in the ongoing 2019/2020 Total CAF champions league and Total CAF confederation cup. The competition which is at the quarter final stage has been temporarily suspended due to COVID-19 pandemic.
