Two YPP members defect to Labour Party in Abia

Two members of the Abia State House of Assembly from the Young Progressive Party switched to the Labour Party on Friday. The lawmakers are Fyne Ahuama of Osisioma Ngwa South and Iheanacho Nwogu of Osisioma Ngwa North.

The Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, formally welcomed them. At a reception held at Ngwa High School in Aba, Otti stated that the two members had been supporting his government since its beginning.

He emphasized that their decision to join was not influenced by monetary gain but their belief in a functional government.

Otti further underlined that his administration doesn’t focus on distributing money but rather strives to create an environment in which businesses can flourish.

The governor noted that his government prioritizes supporting business and facilitating independence, and he reassured that they won’t compromise on their principles.

Additionally, he mentioned his directive to the Commissioner for Works to ensure that the contractor working on Ekeakpara Road accelerates the pace of work. Otti also revealed plans for the construction of more roads in Osisioma Ngwa LGA, as well as the development of a five-star hotel and an international conference center in Aba within the next 24 months, aimed at boosting the economy.

Expressing gratitude to the people of Osisioma for their support, Otti announced that the Labour Party registration processes are open and encouraged people to join the party.

Mr. Ceekey Igara, the Labour Party Vice Chairman for the South East, commended the governor’s efforts and encouraged the new members to contribute to the party’s growth. In their speeches, the two members who defected to the Labour Party expressed their admiration for Otti’s leadership and highlighted their commitment to the party.

With this development, the YPP no longer has representation in the Abia State House of Assembly, making the Labour Party the majority party with 12 lawmakers, followed by the PDP with 11, and the APC with one.
