Terrorist attack in Moscow: 11 suspects detained as death toll rise to 115

Eleven people have been detained over the terrorist attack on the Crocus City Hall concert venue outside Moscow, as the death toll from the attack rises to 115.

Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) in a statement said that those arrested include “four terrorists who were directly involved in the terrorist attack on Crocus.”

All four terrorists were arrested in Russia’s Bryansk Region within several hours of the attack. The detainees are now being transferred to Moscow, the statement added.

After carrying out the attack on Friday night, “the perpetrators tried to escape by car, fleeing towards the Russian-Ukrainian border. The criminals intended to cross the Russia-Ukraine border and had relevant contacts on the Ukrainian side,” the FSB added.

Russia’s Investigative Committee also confirmed the detention of the that four suspects. They were detained in Bryansk Region, “not far from the border with Ukraine.”

The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation has since January 2011 been the main federal investigating authority in Russia. Its name is usually abbreviated to SKR. The agency replaced the Russian prosecutor general’s Investigative Committee and operates as Russia’s anti-corruption agency.

According to Russia’s Investigative Committee, the death toll in the attack has reached at least 115. The Moscow Region Health Ministry said that at least 121 people were also wounded, with 107 requiring hospitalization.

Investigators said that “according to preliminary data, the causes of death were gunshot wounds and poisoning by combustion products (smoke inhalation).”

The Investigative Committee said it is now carrying out ballistic, genetic and fingerprint analysis based on the material evidence found at the scene.

Investogist in a report on Friday that an attack happened at the Crocus City Hall shopping mall and concert complex. A sputnik correspondent reported that at least three people in camouflage opened fire at the venue. “After that, the gunmen threw a grenade or an incendiary bomb which started a fire,” the correspondent added.
