President Tinubu condemns attack on Troops Operating in Aba

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has condemned the attack on the troops of operation Udoka in Aba Abia State on the 30th of May 2024.

On Thursday the 30 May 2024, Soldiers stationed at Obikabia Junction in Obioma Ngwa Local Government Area of the state ,came under heavy attack in which Five soldiers lost their lives.

The President and the Nigeria Army headquarters has blamed the attack on proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) whom on the same day had mandated a sit at home in commemoration of those whose lives were lost during the Civil War of 1967 – 1970.

President Tinubu on his official X handle linked the attack to the similar tragic incident in Okuama, Delta State two months ago.

“I have received yet another disheartening news story about the killing of five soldiers by suspected militants of the proscribed terrorist organisation, IPOB,” the President wrote.

The president swore to come down heavily on those responsible. In his words, “the Federal government will come down heavily against those who have made it a habit to needlessly attack the officers of men of our armed forces” he further said that “on no account should anyone , under any guise, have the audacity to kill against the state“.

“I want to make it clear that the government of the federal republic of Nigeria and the Armed Forces have the capacity to crush violent non safe actors making communities unsafe” he stated.

The Nigerian Army in a statement on Friday signed by Major General Edward Buba, Director Defence Media Operations, confirmed the killing of 5 personnel of the armed forces.

Also, the military confirmed that six civilians were killed in the crossfire that ensued between the terrorists and the troops.

Troops of OP UDO KA deployed at Obikabia Junction Checkpoint in Obingwa Local Government Areas adjourning Aba metropolis in Abia State were attacked and sadly killed by terrorist of IPOB/ ESN. The troops deployed to enforce peace in the area and protect the citizens were massed attacked by the terrorist. The terrorist in 3 tinted Prado Toyota SUVs and others from builtup areas surrounding the checkpoint, sprang a surprise attack on the checkpoint, the NA said in the statement.

According to Major General Buba, investigation are ongoing concerning the attack. The military also promised to retaliate the attack on its troops, vowing that their response would be brutal.
