One dead, five arrested as APC/PDP supporters clash in Jigawa

One person died and five others arrested on Friday after a violent clash brokeout between supporters of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) supporters in Jigawa State.

The incident occured during the rally of the PDP’s governorship candidate, Mustafa Sule Lamido in Maigatari Local Government Area (LGA). As they arrived at the APC Secretariat, tensions rose and a clash broke out.

The victim, “Abdullahi Isiyaku, a 37-year-old man from Gangare Quarters in Maigatari town, was attacked by members of the PDP’s ‘Santuraki Vanguard’. He was rushed to the Gumel General Hospital for treatment but later died from his injuries,” according to a police statement. 

It added that a discreet investigation is underway at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Dutse.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of Jigawa State Command DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam stated that the situation is under control and the police are working to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.
