JUST IN: EFCC detains Emefiele after his release by DSS

The Economic and Financial Cruimes Commission (EFCC) has detained the embattled former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele.

Investogist gathered that the EFCC picked him up Thursday night less than an hour after he regained his freedom from the Department of State Services.

The former CBN Chief is currently being interrogated at the National Headquarters of the anti-graft agency, Jabi, Abuja over alleged impropriety during his term as the head of the apex bank.

Emefiele was arrested by the DSS in June after he was suspended by President Bola Tinubu. At the time the presidency said his suspension was due to “ongoing investigation of his office and the planned reforms in the financial sector of the economy.”

He was arraigned on July 25, on a two-count charge bordering on “illegal possession” of firearms at a federal high court in Lagos and was granted bail in the sum of N20 million. The charges were later withdrawn by the Federal Government.

After the withdrawal, a fresh 20-count charge was instituted against him over an alleged conspiracy to carry out procurement fraud, among others.
