The Federal Civil Service Innovation Competition 2020, which started in July 2020 has been concluded, with the winning team awarded the grand prize of N3.00 million, according to the publication by the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of Nigeria.
The Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF) had called for innovative thinkers to introduce their ideas that will lead to the transformation of the public service. At the time of the call, OHCSF said it will “build visibility” for the solutions that would be provided and create a “suitable environment for the development of the ideas.”
The competition started with a total of 168 submissions from 109 Civil Servants who participated in the first round of pitching.
However, 13 teams made it to the final stage. At the end of the competition the first prize of N3M went to the team with innovation on how to curb leakages of official data in the work spaces; the 2nd and 3rd runner ups went home with the sum of 1.7M and N1M respectively. Consolation prizes of N200,000 went to each of the ten (10) teams that made it to the final stage.

According to the OHCSF publication, signed by Iheoma-Hart Queenet for Director Communications, “during the maiden award ceremony of the Federal Civil Service Innovation Competition, 2020 held on Friday, August 7th 2020 in Abuja, the Head of Civil Service of the Federation (HoS), Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan expressed great optimism on the growth of Nigeria Civil Service.
“Dr. Yemi-Esan disclosed that arrangements have been concluded on the establishment of Service Innovation Department in the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation. She added that Service Innovation Divisions headed by Deputy Directors are to be established in the Reform Coordination and Service Improvement Departments of all MDAs. The circular to this effect has been approved and would be issued immediately.
