The Dangote refinery in Nigeria is set to import its first cargo of Brazilian crude oil. The one-million-barrel shipment of Brazil’s Tupi crude is scheduled for delivery in the latter half of next month.
This marks a significant step for Nigeria, as the country has relied on imported fuel despite historically being Africa’s largest oil producer.
The Dangote refinery’s capacity to source crude oil from diverse global suppliers is crucial to Nigeria’s efforts to enhance energy security, reduce import dependency, and lower fuel prices for consumers.
Additionally, the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) recently reached an agreement with oil producers to supply crude oil to domestic refineries at market prices, aiming to ensure a stable and resilient energy infrastructure for the country.
This move follows a supply dispute with international oil companies and is part of broader efforts to avoid over-reliance on any single source for crude oil.
