Abia demolishes illegal structures on government college’s land

The Abia State Government started demolishing structures built by illegal occupants on the land belonging to Government College, Umuahia on Saturday.

During the demolition exercise, Kingsley Agomoh, the general manager of Umuahia Capital Development Authority, UCDA, stated that the exercise serves as a warning to those who encroach on government land. Agomoh explained that the Abia State government had given Government College Umuahia to the institution’s Old Boys association with a certificate of occupancy.

He expressed surprise at individuals still selling government land and stressed the importance of properly enquiring before purchasing plots of land.

He further clarified that the occupants of the encroached land had been duly served notice before the demolition. The structures on the encroached areas now belong to Government College, Umuahia, he added.
